Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology "Prof. Alexander Fol"

The Institute of Balkan Studies with Center for Thracology “Prof. Alexander Fol” is a main national research center and coordinator in the field of Balkan Studies in Southeast Europe.

The Center of Thracology "Prof. Alexander Fol" is a research unit whose the specific field is the interdisciplinary research of the history and culture of the Thracians: of the Thracian state with the political, economic and social aspects of its development; the creation of the Thracian ethnic group, the political and cultural interactions of the Thracians with other ancient ethnic groups in Southeastern Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia Minor; of the society, way of life, religion and rites of the Thracians; of the Thracian and Paleo-Balkan ethnocultural and linguistic elements in the context of the formation of the culture of the Balkan Peninsula and in Asia Minor in antiquity; the study of the fate of the Thracians at the end of Antiquity and their incorporation into the Bulgarian nation.
