Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre
Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (CMRC-BAS) is the only scientific institute in Bulgaria and abroad dedicated entirely to a comprehensive study of the work of the Slavic first teachers, Sts. Cyril and Methodius.
Unlike similar institutes in the country and abroad, which study individual problem areas of Cyrillo-Methodian studies, the CMRC examines the problems exhaustively, applying simultaneously linguistic, literary, textological, art historical, paleographic, and cultural-historical approaches. The creation of a modern research toolkit in Cyril and Methodius studies and its provision in a structured form to meet societal needs is another key emphasis in the mission of the CMRC, which aims to affirm the Cyril and Methodius tradition as one of the foundations of Bulgarian cultural heritage. In this perspective, the CMRC participates in the Centre of Excellence “Heritage BG” through the creation of the virtual portal “Cyrillomethodikon” with an Innovative Educational Centre, as well as in the national scientific infrastructure CLaDA-Bg.
The CMRC cooperates with a wide range of Bulgarian and foreign specialists and institutions within the framework of research projects and bilateral agreements, and publishes their contributions in the journal “Palaeobulgarica” (Scopus, WoS, ERIH+ and seven more ref. indexes) and the series “Cyrillo-Methodievski Studies” – leading publications in Paleo-Slavic studies. In this way, in practice, the Centre serves as a coordinator of scientific research in the field of Cyrillo-Methodian studies.
